There are a number of cosmetic surgeries that are beneficial
and give significant results but some of the procedures have become very
popular and breast augmentation is one of them. This cosmetic surgery is the
most commonly performed procedure among women. The procedure results in
significant improvement of size and shape of breasts and this is done by
inserting breast implants. There are various types of breast implants, here you
will know about them in detail and risks and problems associated with them.
Breast implants are devises that have outer layer of firm
silicone and are filled with different types of solutions. All the implants
have their own qualities and all of them are in used, however some are more
popular and some are not. The two most important types of breast implants are
given below.
·
Saline implants:
Saline implants are filled with sterilized
solution of salt and water and elastomer silicone is used as shell. These
implants are filled with different amounts of solution that affect the shape,
feel and firmness of breasts depending on the need. If these implants rupture,
the fluid will spread out and absorbed by the body and is expelled naturally.
·
Silicone implants:
These implants are filled with silicone gel and
covering of elastomer is used. If the rupture of silicone implants occurs,
silicone gel will either remain in the shell or will escape in the pockets of
implants. These implants do not collapse on rupture so, if you are going to
have these implants, you must go for more regular checkups as compared to those
who select saline implants. MRI or ultrasound scan are used to determine the
condition of implants. There are different generations of silicone implants and
the latest is made of semi solid gel that eliminates the risk of silicone
migration to other parts of body as result of rupture or leakage.
Beside these implants, other kind of implants can also be
used that are filled with polypropylene string, soy oil, or some other
substance.
There are some risks associated with the breast implants if
you do not select an experienced surgeon for the surgery. Some risks are
temporary, less severe and do not take much time to subside but some are severe.
Some of the adverse outcomes and complications of breast implants are given below.
·
Additional surgeries may be required including
or excluding removal of breast implants.
·
Capsular contracture can occur in which scar
tissues are formed around the implants and squeeze the implants.
·
Breast pain can also be caused.
·
Loss of sensation may also occur in the nipples
or breasts.
·
Rupture and deflation occurs in saline-filled
breast implants.
·
Rupture – with or without symptoms – occurs in
silicone gel implants, which is called silent rupture.
